Heutige Videokompressoren arbeiten mit einem Algorithmus, der nicht mehr jedes einzelne Bild eines Films speichert, sonder nur die Änderungen, die auf ein so genanntes "Schlüsselbild" folgen. Wenn man dem Kompressor dieses Schlüsselbild entzieht, sei es durch Absicht oder Zufall, dann entsteht Chaos.
Als Grundlage für "Pastell Kompressor" verwendeten wir Zeitrafferaufnahmen von vorbeiziehenden Wolken, die wir auf den Hochebenen Südfrankreichs gemacht hatten. Dieses Material bearbeiteten wir mit dem "Sörensen- 3"- Kompressor. Den dabei entstandenen chaotischen Zerfall der Bilder provozierten wir bewusst weiter, wobei wir durch eine erneute Einzelbildanimation der Fragmente diesen Film zusammenfügten.
Todays video compressors are using an algorithm, which is not anymore saving each frame of a movie clip, but only the changes, which come after a so called "keyframe". If this keyframe is being withdrawn from the compressor, be it on purpose or by chance, chaos is being generated.
As basis for "pastell compressor" we have been using time- lapse shootings of clouds drifting by, which we took on the plateaus in the south of france. Afterwards this material has been worked on with a compression codec called "sörensen- 3". This chaotic picture- decomposition, which resulted from the compression, we went on provoking. While doing so, we were joining the fragments together by making another one- frame- animation, which became this movie- clip.
今日のビデオ・コンプレッサーは、もはやムービー・クリップの各フレームではなく、いわゆる「キーフレーム」の後に来る変化だけを保存するアルゴリズムを使用している。もしこのキーフレームが故意であろうと偶然であろうと、コンプレッサーから取り消されれば、カオスが生成される。
この作品『パステル・コンプレッサー』の基礎として、私たちはフランス南部のプラトーで流れる雲の微速度撮影を行った。その後、この素材を「ソレンセン−３」と呼ばれる圧縮コーデックで作業した。私たちは、その圧縮から生じたこのカオス的な絵の解体を続けた。そうする間に、別のコマ撮りアニメーションを作ることによって、その断片を一緒に加えて、このムービー・クリップとなった。
